When I am playing games that I've unzipped into D-Fend Reloaded, and I save my progress, where are those files stored? Are the saved files associated with DOSBox somehow?

If a friend saves his game progress here, and then goes home to play on his own computer, how can we gain access to those files and send him the info to restore his game?

Thank you in advance for any help or advice.

D-Fend Reloaded is a front-end for DOSBox. The saves should be stored the same way they would be if using DOSBox without a front-end. That is, look in the path you mounted as C:\ and find the folder for your game.

I'm not 100% computer savvy. I'm not a total moron, but my knowledge is limited. I'm going into My Comp, and then exploring the C: directory. So far, I've found D-Fend. Within D-Fend, I've been exploring all the files that I see (DOSBox, NewUserData, etc), and the files within those files.

I'm not sure if this is how I'm supposed to find the saved files. If I'm on the right track, a little nudging would help. Also, once I find them, how will I know? Will they be a certain file type, or should I be looking for the description I gave to the saved game when we were playing it?

I hadn't previously mounted DOSBox, so I created a file folder in D: called dosgames. I told DOSBox to mount the C: drive there. Now I'm showing that drive C: is mounted as a local directory and Z: is still an internal virtual drive.

the location, file name, and file type of saved games depends entirely on the game in question, not on D-Fend Reloaded. Typically they are stored in the same path that the game was installed to, but not always.

First you need to know where the game itself is - DFR likes to have its games in a "VirtualHD" subfolder (I think, been a long while since I used it) but they could be just about anywhere. Just open up the game's profile in DFR's profile editor and check for the path of the program file.

Open this folder in an explorer window (or your file manager of choice), then run the game in a window. Save your progress, and see if any file gets created or changed in that folder as soon as you do that (sort by "last modified" timestamp to be sure).
