dbase 5.0 on xp 32 bit machine works and runs the full size file of 2.4 gb while the 64 bit win 7 using dosbox as an emulator to run dbase will run through smaller files with no problems but it continues to get caught up trying to run the 2.4 gb file as if it can not find the end of the file (as if it is not all there) looking for any suggestions or references to figure the quandary out. keywords: that have been brought up are record out of range.

Thanks in advance,
Sam

You're not going to have much luck getting support for non-game applications in DOSBox.

Maybe try making a bootable hard disk image with FreeDOS (or MS-DOS), dbase and the 2.4gb file on it?

FAT16 partitions cannot exceed 2 GB, so it makes no sense to suggest an MS-DOS program could access a file larger than 2 GB.

You'd have to boot some version of DOS with FAT32 support, at least.

Sorry, but as you said, FAT16 partitions have a 2Gb limitation, but:

- Some MS-DOS and clones (like Windows 98 MS-DOS and FreeDOS) can use FAT32 partitions.

- Network file systems doesn't have that limitation. That means that you could use MS-DOS 5 to connect to a filesystem with a few terabytes of storage.

In any case, you should check if dbf files have some size limitations (like access or AVI files). Google shows that they may be limited to 255 fields/table and 2Gb size.
