I am making svn builds for os x and put a link to my dropbox in the developer forum in the sticky svn builds thread (last page or second to last).

Latest DosBox SVN builds are always there in that website, the last SVN change:
http://www.emucr.com/2011/12/dosbox-svn-r3768.html
This site is very unclear for what OS that snapshot is. I assume it's only Windows.
I'm not encountering any errors when installing Warcraft II and its expansion from BIN/CUE images. Used default settings in official Win32 DOSBox 0.74 with IMGMOUNT to mount the images; installed both to C:\WAR2 (default). Installation also working with no apparent problems in a build of straight SVN source.
Get 4DOS (you'll need that for this) and check if the files in the directory are NOT set to read only (attrib *.*) If you get H___A or something similar, attrib *.* -h; then try to install the expansion again.
DOSBox does not have the ability to read or write file attributes on the host through local drive mounts; so there should be no problem with attributes if both the game and expansion are installed within DOSBox.

That is interesting. I have a few questions then:
1) Which program did you use to create your BIN+CUE images?
2) Which settings under that particular program did you use?
3) Which version is your Beyond the Dark Portal disc? Mine is from the Warcraft Battle chest. Maybe yours is a different version?
I did manage to make OSX read the ISO9660 portion of the disc (through a very complicated process using the terminal) and used the MOUNT command to successfully make DosBox read the CD. That got the game working, however with no cd audio. Which leads me to believe (yet again) that it's my image file that's the problem, not DosBox.
Hmm, last time I used alcohol to rip a CD it gave two options on how to habdle errors on the CD. Maybe try the other one
According to Mobygames there is a hybrid expansion disc that supports Macintosh. The disc I have is DOS/Windows only. There is a fix in SVN for IMGMOUNT regarding the hiding of associated files that is relevant for hybrid Mac discs. Have you tried an SVN build?
Ran across this after I encountered the same problem. I also had the hybrid version (though not the battle chest edition).
Using imgburn to create a bin/cue seems to create an image file that doesn't work. I solved the problem by ripping the audio separately using EAC, then creating a new CD, imaging that, and then mounting THAT image.
The second track on the original cd seems to be the mac data track, I just replaced it with a copy of the smallest audio file so that the game would play the proper tracks.
I Have a warcraft II CD that is said to be ''powered for macintosh'', but it is also a DOS cd. I think its the only hybrid version of the original warcraft II.
You can either try
Classic Environmment
Basilik (Work but SLOW)
Sheepshaver (not tested)
If you really cant make it work on DOSBOX

"Accelerated for Power Macintosh", which means, it runs on PowerMacintosh models in native mode
(when using Mac OS versions up to 9.2.2), w/o having to use 68k emulation.
