I ran into an odd problem with an install of Curse of the Azure Bonds (a "gold box" game). I'm running vanilla 0.74 on Windows XP. I was installing from original 3.5" floppies (apparently V1.2 of the game--it came with a product that had the first three Forgotten Realms games in it), and it looked fine. But the game would complain about a missing "ITEMS" file, and not run.

Turns out there is a file "ITEMS" on the first insall disk that does not get copied by the batch file install script because there is something corrupt about the date/time stamp or whatnot on the file on the original floppy. Windows XP shows blank information about the file, but the built-in DOS in DOSBox acts like the file is simply not there.

The workaround was to copy the file manually outside of DOSBox (either before or after the install) so the file system information would get set to something proper.

I wonder what stat() returns on that file/directory as our checks aren't that strict.
