I wanted to add a NIC to my Tandy 1000RL for FTP access, but all I have are NE2000 compatible NICs, and 3Com 3C509B's.

Both of these need 286+ for their packet drivers.... Or so I thought.

I found this post on VCF: 3C509B Packet Driver, XT edition

So, I just thought I'd share the love! You can now use your abundance of 3C509B TPO cards in your IBM PC and Tandy machines. Ace!! 😀

Oh that nice 😁

All i can do now with my Tandy 1000TX is read floppies, so basically cannot run anything bigger than 720k. Makes for a great Prince of persia Box but i want to do more with it eventually.

Well I just got it up and running.

For some reason, I have to use the "-i" flag on the packet driver, to force Ethernet II encapsulation.

Also, the NIC doesn't seem to start responding immediately, it takes about 10-15 seconds for traffic to start flowing. However, that could be my managed switch taking its time to put me on the right VLAN.
