Hi there everyone. I am attempting to setup You Don't Know Jack in Win3.1 installed within Dosbox.

I am using 0.74 w/ Win 3.1 installed following the Win3.1 guide. Graphics have been set to 800x600, 64k colors using the posted S3 drivers and the Sound Blaster drivers have been loaded and verified working as well.

I have tried YDKJ1, 2, and XL and found the same problem in all three.

Once the game launches it states:
YOU DON'T KNOW JACK has detected that the game engine is out of synch with the files on the CD-ROM (Looking for: Art Versions: P36, found). Make sure you have the correct version in your CD-ROM drive. Otherwise, re-install"

I am playing from the same CD that i installed from. The CD is an ISO image of the original disc. I am mounting in the standard way:
imgmount d ".\cd\YDKJ 1 XL.iso" -t cdrom

I realize that getting into wi3.1 support is possibly out of scope here, I was just hoping to get some ideas on what could be causing this.

Just a theory, but the game may be complaining about the changed date stamps on installed files. You could test the theory using ykhwong's SVN build, which supports changing date stamps on files. Booting an HD image with Win3 and mounting the game ISO with SHSUCDHD would be another way to try it out, although somewhat more involved.

You have a 6th sense. ykhwong's build allows it to play just fine.

Thank you!

If my theory is correct, you may only need ykhwong's build to install the game. Official DOSBox will probably work for playing the game as long as it isn't modifying files yet trying to preserve the original date stamp...
