I fall into the GPU driven camp as well. My legacy builds are each based on specific video card requirements:

Vanilla S3 + Voodoo 1/SB: Pure VESA, and the V1 eliminates need need for messing with environmental values on the V2 rig.

Rendition Verite/Voodoo 2 SLI/Vortex 1: For Hind/Apache and IndyCar Racing Rendition primarily, but also misc 3dfx games that don't really like the V5 or too slow on the V1.

Voodoo 5500/Tualatin 1.4/Vortex 2: a reasonably fast rig for mid to late 3dfx games that don't run perfectly with Glide wrappers in XP/W7. I've basically eliminated the need for wrappers and special fixes to run 3dfx of the glory days.

It is mostly their Super 7 hardware that causes me nightmares.

Now on this, and on the problems with capacitors we all agree on. 😄 MVP4 is the worst chipset that I ever tried out. Its just 😵

BTW, where the hell did you manage to dig out that i875 ISA board! Thats one hell of a catch, even for the insane price it reached. Is it an engineering sample of Intel? Too bad its AGP is keyed for x4/x8, otherwise that board would reach at least 300+ $ I bet.
