This programme allows you to make Install Packages for your old Dos games. You use this programme to setup and test your game under-dosbox. And when you are happy that its running how you like. You just click make the package. And it will gather all information and files and with the use of Innosetup. Will make a installer package. That then can be installed on any Windows XP -> 8 (x32/x64) system. And it will run just with the same settings (and img/iso/cue files) that you setup with my programme. The end-user who is installing the package is not asked for any information to configure the DosBox emulation. As it will already be using the settings that you have made. It makes per-package installers. So if you uninstall/install one. It will not effect the other. If your End-User's are non-admin ones. (like my kids). It will still install and run perfectly fine. If you need to have a map or other information along with the game. Then it also allows chuck those in as well. And put a shortcut in windows for you. As much as I can I have made this as easy to use as possible and focused on the end-user doing nothing but enjoying the good old dos-games.

I understand that people still love what DosBOX brings. The joy of playing around in an a commandline environment. But if you wish to share the joy of the old dos game world to people who have no idea of dos or how to use it. (like my kids 😀 ). This is a simple way of doing it.

This comes with NO nag-ware/add-ware/internet registration. You don't need a internet connection to use this programme. Nor do you have to go to any stupid file-share sites that require you to pay or register. 100% free to use and download and use off-line.

Please leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Packaging MS-DOS games with any flavour of Windows installations seems a pretty stupid thing to do. It's easier and better to use some self-extracting ms-dos archiving (like rar). Thus, you can ensure it will decompress in any platform able to run ms-dos applications.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up.

Stupid is what stupid Does I guess.....

😉

I made this program for anyone who just wants to make self installing
packagers for their dos games. It is simple to use and does not require
a degree....

Sorry mate. I didn't intend to offend you. I was just pointing out my own personal view on that subject.

It's good to have alternatives.

No offence taken, its all good.

I just made this program because I have a few old dos games myself and I
got sick of having to setup dos-box every time. So I made a automatic installer. Now I can just install my games and play them without having to
do any typing 😀

I just put it on here as I thought that other people(s) would like it to.

Feed back is always good to hear, thank you

Nitpicking: DOSBox is not freeware. It just has a very good licencesing scheme.

I am aware of this 😁

But my program is the Freeware, you still have to agree to the DosBox and MakeNSIS license agreements though.

Not nit picking, first time I have every published one of my own creations. So any feed back is good, Thanks everyone

I am thinking of making an updated version to this program. I would like to hear from people who can give some pointers on what should be included and/or taken out.

Sounds like a weird hybrid between a self extracting compressed file and a front-end (minus the options to configure DosBox).

That means the end user doesn't have a choice on where to install the games 😖

The end-user even doesn't need to click the mouse to use this application.

The OSX part is still under contruction. (as there was an issue I discovered when packaging under windows to OS X. This will soon be fix.)

The end user installs the pre-package game that you make with my program. Its just and easy to use Innosetup package (you know the standed routing of clicking next). And then all the end user has to do is open it like any other windows application. There is no need for the end user to change any parts of the emulation of DosBox as you would of set it all up with my program. And then they can play the game you have packaged for them to play.

Not everyone remembers DOS or even has used it. And I have seen plenty of people trying to sell the old abandonware games. I thought this programme would be of use to someone out there. As I started it for my kids to install the old games that I use to play when I was young. Saves time from having to set dosbox up each time when they want to change their minds like kids do.

My programme allows you to pre-setup all mount's imgmount's other dosbox settings. The end package - The user clicks the icon for the game, DosBox launchs with pre-configured settings, mounts all images, mounts all drives that you may have set up. Its all automated for the end user.

The OSX version part. Is my programme making a os x .app. I have no idea of how to write programmes under apple. I am a VB & VB.NET programmer. I like basic, being using it since my family had our first Tandy COCO 2 and Amstrad CPC 464. (those were the days). And I am unaware of any IDE for apple that is the same that you don't have to pay for. I am in the middle of stripping down the Apple native installer and trying to replicate it. But its looking like I will just have to stay with my programme spitting out .app's.

XCode, provied by Apple, or, what i'm using, REAL Studio, which is BASIC in fact.

The new pricing structure, which will be introduced with version 2012r2 later, says, the IDE will be free to use, but if you want to compile, you've to pay.

So, if you decide yourself to use REAL Studio, your customers need to own this compiler to create their stuff.

I have had a look at Real Studio. Which is really good. Bugger you have to pay to compile though......... I had a look a Xcode a few time but C/C++/Java is a bit weird for me. I think I will just recode the .app part of my programme back in. All be it for windows, but at lest its a OS X as some sort of support. My next step will be trying to code the same for Linux. Which shouldn't be that hard once I iron out the bugs for the .app bit of my application.
