Hi there, I was browsing for 486 vids in youtube and found a video about a Compaq Presario from 1999 ( http://youtu.be/ii51iSCnE0Q ) in wich the author states he flashed an AWARD bios. The youtube channel has not any contact so I can ask him for info.
Do you know wich steps do I have to do in order to flash my Presario bios?

I want to have options in the bios , because for now I have close to none!

First things first.. you're going to need the model # of your system. I've flashed a few of the Compaq's with that case (quite a wide range). One of them I was even able to flash from the Compaq BIOS to the actual Gigabyte BIOS, which was pretty cool.

I once flashed a board from a Socket AM2 Acer to use the bios from an equivalent Biostar (I think, may have been some other cheap manufacturer) board. Theoretically, it would have made it so that it could even accept certain Socket AM3 CPUs, but I never tested it, and I just ended up giving it to a friend of mine instead. 😜

sorry, you're right, it's a Compaq Presario 7464. Can't seem to find the manual with the specs, I have to check the name of the mboard or at least some info about the bios for you to be able to help me right? I'll try to get it as soon as possible, thank you 😀

I think that's a Compaq Camaro mobo. There are many revs and they have specific #s like 164465-101 for example. Should be able to find the number on the edge of the board somewhere.

I wouldn't get your hopes too high. I vaguely remember swapping one of these for another COMPAQ BIOS to gain some basic feature, nothing major.

Yes that is it, there's a sticker: "0013 31 CAMARO PCA,SCKT7 MV4-CAM 311C4P08SC7 Replace with Compaq Spare Spare: 166050-101 Part No. 164465101"

Could not find any chip that even remotly looked like a standard BIOS/CMOS chip, it must be ther somewhere 😊

A little Googling shows your board is actually a Mitac 5114VU. Some people have managed to flash a Mitac BIOS using UNIFLASH. However, people have reported problems with memory checks and other errors during boot.

I would do some homework before you decide to do this. I'd also ask yourself.. Why am I doing this -- what do I hope to gain? Do I care if I screw up this motherboard?

DISCLAIMER: I'm not responsible for any damage to your motherboard. You do this at your own risk!!

? you mean this is not made by Compaq? I'm really naive 😅
thanks 😀

I'm interesting in this because I want to make some experiences, mainly with different cpu , but one of the forums that mentioned this MiTAC board posted the pdf manual and I got it, it mentions only the K6-2 (not any other socket 7 cpu) can this be right?

Maybe I'll just let is as is and have it as a second win98 machine 😒

Dell, HP, Compaq all have motherboard manufacturers make their boards. Sometimes you can easily match them to a consumer board, other times not.

I wouldn't flash a Socket 7 board with a K6-2 board's BIOS. Maybe that's why people were having problems.

Don't give up! The Internet's a big place. Somebody out there or on these forums might know something.
