When I try to power up my PowerMac, either with the power button on the front, or on the keyboard, I hear two clicks from the PSU, and that's it. No fans or HDDs spinning, no power LED, nada.

Tried CUDA button reset and logic board reset, tried removing the battery, tried removing and re-seating the personality card, RAM, ROM and Vreg.

I figured it might be the PSU, so I connected an ATX PSU with the -5V and P_OK pins removed. I changed the jumper J28 to PS/2 Supply, and tried to power up. Now the PSU fan spins up, and the HDD spins up, but still no power LED, chime, or any other signs of life.

So, am I looking at a dead motherboard here? There are no signs of physical damage. The board was stored for a while, but the battery was removed. Help!! 🙁

I would have suspected a PSU issue as you did. No chance to test original PSU/replacement ATX on other hardware just to make sure?

The ATX power supply is from my test bench, it's a "known good".

Anyway, I fiddled with it a bit more and got it to go. 😁

Apparently the only sequence of things I didn't try was restting CUDA after swapping the PSU's over. Hit it once, got the power LED and a broken, corrupted sounding chime. Re-seated the ROM, and it chimed straight away and booted 9.2.2. Woot!

...and with that sorted, the sucker now has 512MB of RAM. Powah.

Thanks! It was SUCH a relief. I'd just finished building my Apple RGB+ADB 2-way switch, and I was going to be pretty upset if I'd done all that and my PowerMac was dead.
