I was able to get dos box to run windows 3.1 and I found a game from the mid 90's that I played quite a bit.
"Stake Your Acres"
It starts and runs fine except for a few text boxes that you really need are grayed out.

Are you sure it's definitely not supposed to do that on actual hardware? You might want to try running it in VMware or Virtual PC.
If you didn't install the game from its original disks (that is, if you just copied the installed files from an old hard drive), there might be something missing.
Yes, it is definitely supposed to show some info there.
I found the original disk, installed it from there and have the same problem.
Any other ideas?
Thanks for the help Jorpho.
The only other thing I can think of is that you might not have your folders mounted correctly, so that it is trying to access a file in a location that does not exist. Maybe it's trying to write to C:\TEMP, for example.
One way to check is to use the debug version of DOSBox, which will show you what files a program is trying to access.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Jorpho,
I tried it in Virtual PC with win98 and it works perfectly now.
