If this is a game you downloaded you'll have to ask at the site you got it from.

Quite possibly true. He doesn't even bother to explain his DOSbox settings or image mountings or anything. I would assume the download file has images of the game floppies. Pretty sure you can't install the game in DOSBox unless you extracted the files from the disk images first.

Upon doing some digging, Fox Ranger is a Korean R-Type clone.

EDIT: I see what his problem is now. WinImage can't open the disk images, so I have no clue what format they're supposed to be in (unless the FAT is missing something that WinImage needs).

You could mount the images as a virtual floppy with the appropriate software, then MOUNT them in DOSbox as Drive A and run the install program, but I don't see how this is possible if they're apparently unreadable.

Look at the file sizes. I think the first dsk and the exe files belong to disk 1, the second dsk to disk 2, etc. They weren't imaged, just the files were copied off and stored. As it is the exe is looking for the original disks which must have had some form of protection on them.

I did notice that they're not the proper size for a 1.2MB or 1.44MB floppy. Most likely, only the actual data on the disks was imaged and whatever blank space remained on them was dropped from the images.

They probably weren't copy protected because I've never heard of on-disk protection on HD floppies.

But good point about the forum's reluctance to support game downloads. How is anyone supposed to figure out how to install this clusterf*ck? Not that he's likely to be able to find an original copy of an obscure Korean game anyway, but...

I know Lemmings looks for the original disk. Also HyperSpeed gets very confused when installing from an image.

It's clearly a warez release, possibly fake, at least a beta. I'm surprised a moderator hasn't deleted the link and locked the thread by now.

Probanly not image format but files that were supposed to be on the floppies and likely parts of an arj/rar/zip or an obscure file container.

For the record, TrID can't recognize it either.

I agree with ripsaw. I did a search and found nothing about that name.

I am locking it now.
