Great game. Used to spend hours playing it on the old 120mhz we used to have...or was it the Pukey Bell? I forget. Anyhow, found the immaculate disc (no scratches whatsoever) in its case in the trash at work (Swap Meet season)...and have had it for a year but was unplayable until I heard about DOSBOX a day or so ago. Well...here it goes.

As I can't install the game normally...Win7 gives me an error, I tried using the walkthrough given @ 60 seconds guide to getting your game to run in DOSBox

I get as far as the inputting "install" where it takes me to the games built-in setup...letting me chose between the FULL game...or shareware of it and other games (ie Duke Nukem 2). I tell it where to install (C:\TV) but then it gives me an error by jumping back to dosbox and says:

Error opening ARIA.COM: No such file or directory.

Tried several times but nogo. I'm using v0.74 of DosBox

Check for ARIA.COM in D:\TVINST and see if it can be copied from the disc.
It would also help if you post all the commands used.

Found ARIA on the disc. Just need to figure out where to put it.

I mounted C and D. Next i use DIR /W to see whats there on disc. I then select INSTALL.

I'm shown the 3D REALMS Compact Disc Installation splash screen where I can choose the TV full install (among others). I opt for the full install of Terminal Velocity. When it says: "Enter directory name to install to" I tell it to put in C:\TV and hit ENTER. That's when it gives me the ARIA issue.

Those aren't commands. I'm looking for something similar to -
MOUNT C C:\DOS\GAMES -t dir -freesize 400
MOUNT D D:\ -t cdrom
D:
INSTALL

I prefer to use the installer but it shouldn't be an issue if you copy the contents of the TVINST folder to C:\DOS\GAMES\TV.
You'll still need 2 files.

CDROM.INI, which contains

D:\TVINST\TVI

VOX.INI should be generated by the game.
You'll have to use the same mounting commands to play the game.

I know those aren't commands. 😜 The mounting commands I used were the same as I used for WORMS (the original one) and had no trouble there. I used the MOUNT C "C:\Program Files (x86)\DOSBOX\DOSBOX-0.74\Games" since that is where I installed dosbox to...wanted to try and keep things associated with it in one place. Then did MOUNT D "D:\" -t cdrom just like you did there. I selected the INSTALL option by doing the type and enter.

Should I be moving the copied files toe Games folder then?

Something's not working...

Am I to guess where it asks to install, it should read as C:\Games\TV ? Just did that and still it comes up with the Aria thing

No, if you mounted "C:\Program Files (x86)\DOSBOX\DOSBOX-0.74\Games" then Games\TV\ should look like C:\TV\ Within DOSBox.

I thought you were going to copy the files yourself instead of going through the installer.

You lost me on the part where it's asking to install again.

Ok I snafu'd on the copying over part...I copy pasted all of the cdrom files over...didn't take the ones out of TVINST and put in TV. ie In Games\TV\<copy of CD contents here>. Not sure how to get it to go from there then

Within "C:\Program Files (x86)\DOSBOX\DOSBOX-0.74\Games" rename TVINST to TV.

It should be Games\TV\<contents of TVINST>

You can remove the other contents that was copied from the disc. TV\TVI is also redundant since CDROM.INI would normally point to it on D:\.

Mount C and D. Change to TV. Then run SETUP.EXE to configure your sound.

Grrr...I know I'm still missing something or not doing a step right somewhere.

I made sure C was mounted: MOUNT C "C:\program files (x86)\dosbox\dosbox-0.74\games"
Made sure D was also: MOUNT D "D:\" -t cdrom
The TVINST folder from earlier was moved into the Games folder and renamed TV.

Type -
C:
CD\ TV
SETUP.EXE

Configure sound

TV.EXE

Play game

Did you make CDROM.INI as I mentioned earlier?

Hate to sound like a broken record but should the command line start with C:\<type here>?

Can't get the setup to even start up without it saying ILLEGAL COMMAND.

Got the thing to say C:\GAMES\TV earlier but cant remember how I got it to do that

If you're this uncomfortable with a command line interface, maybe you should use something like D-Fend Reloaded, for your sanity and ours.

Let's just say I'm not what could be called "computer literate" when it comes to things like commands and such. NOTE that I did get WORMS to work just fine, with TV being the issue. So I can lay it out for myself and those trying to help. This is what I did. I'm closing dosbox so it will start from scratch (i think). Will also change the directory and moved the TV folder into it.

Z:\MOUNT C "C:\DOS\Games\TV"
(Okay its mounted now.)

Z:\MOUNT D "D:\" -t cdrom
MSCDEX installed.
(Okay its mounted now.)

Um....DOH! I think I just figured out how I was screwing up. Didn't add /TV after GAMES as other attempts never had MSCDEX to show up. Even the built-in installer works now. Sorry if I was too much of a pain. Thanks for the help though. Next will be getting it to keep settings so I need not keep doing an "install" to play it.

EDIT: I need a joystick...never used KB on it. Keyboarding this game is a pain.

You shouldn't mount the folder that the game installed to as that becomes the new root of C. Many games expect to be in a sub directory of the root.

MOUNT C "C:\DOS\Games" = C:\

C:\DOS\Games\TV = C:\TV

Glad you got everything else sorted out.
