So I'm kinda confused in DOSBox and I just can't get this game to work.

I have the original cd (not the expansion), it is in French, cd says DOS/Win 95 and has a designed for windows 95 logo.

My system is Windows 7 64 bit, using dosbox 0.74.

Trying directly in windows tells me it's not compatible.
In dosbox, I either get to
1- launch the game(without installing anything) (without sound if launched from the ISO), with no sound effects, intense lag when a pop up appears and it crashes after the first turn (autosave.gm1 or something)
or
2- dosbox tells me I can't run this game in dos.

I have my original CD, an ISO I made and files copied on my hard drive and tried using many different ways to play but nothing worked.

Can someone help this newbie out? 🤣

I have an old vista laptop the game works on, but I'd rather have the game on my desktop if possible. (without cd would be even better)

follow the 60 seconds guide to install the game within dosbox. If you want to go the image way, make a bin/cue image of the CD-Rom. Isos don't always cut it and if there are audio tracks not at all.

That's the first thing I did, you can be sure of that. When I follow those instructions exactly, I get "This program cannot be run in DOS mode." when I try to run setup.exe.

There is another excutable file called DOS4GW.exe in the directory, but I have no idea what do would do and it gets a "fatal error".

install.exe, or install.bat or something like this. Or some readme that says what to execute when installing on Dos?

Oh wow, thanks. I hadn't seen install.exe because it was further in the hierarchy and I thought setup was an equivalent. Thanks.

Now all that's left is the lack of sound effects and the intense lag when certain pop ups appear. Is this known/is there a solution?

dosbox already says max cycles and sound I have no idea... this is really getting too complicated IMO. I'll just play on my laptop for now and I'll deal with this when the laptop is out of commission! haha
