Hi there,

I got TIE Fighter (collector's CD-rom, not TIE fighter 95) working on my system except after, say 15 minutes, my entire computer freezes up.

Motherboard
Asus M2a-vm HDMI

Processor type and speed
AMD Athlon 64 X2 dualcore processor 6000+ 3ghz

Amount and type of RAM
4gb DDR RAM

Video board w/ RAM amount and type
Nvidia GEforce 8600GT, 512mb

Sound board
Onboard on motherboard

Operating system
Windows 7 64bit

Game name (and version, if applicable)
TIE fighter collector's cd rom

Description of problem
After a certain amount of time, not just dosbox but my entire computer freezes up. Nothing responds and I have to do a hard reset.

Reproducibility of problem
Always, it happens after a certain time on different levels.

Sound mode used
standard

Video mode
just the standard

Version of emulator
Dosbox 0.74

Steps already attempted to solve the problem
I've read the README. I've tried running the game from the original cd-rom as well as from a mounted image. I also tried Dosbox 0.65 which ran the game incredibly slowly (too slowly for me to check if the freeze happens there as well)
I have not made any modifications in the DOSBOX settings as I wouldn't know where to look for this particular issue.

Hope you guys can help!

It is inadvisable to use anything other than DOSBox 0.74 at this point.

It would be highly unusual if the problem you are experiencing is exclusive to DOSBox.
Is your computer functioning normally?
Do you play any graphically intensive games?
Does the same problem occur with other relatively demanding games in DOSBox?
Have you updated your graphics card drivers lately?
Does the same thing regardless of whether you are running DOSBox in a window or fullscreen?
Can you run HWmonitor at the same time and see if any of your computer's components are getting unusually warm?

I don't run a lot of games on here, the Telltale games are fairly recent (2009 or so) and they run without any problem.

I've updated my post with my graphics card. Tomorrow I'll do some troubleshooting with your suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Try not using output=surface. Perhaps the 'crash' is a complete nvidia driver hang from the fullscreen palette management.

I was only running the game windowed when this happened. I updated my driver (1.something to the latest 3.something) and I'll tentatively say the issue's been resolved. I was able to play for about 30 minutes before closing the game. I'll give it some more testing tomorrow but it's looking good.

I did monitor the temperatures and nothing spiked. Videocard and one core hovered around the 68-75 degrees celsius (my videocard doesn't have a fan, just a big heatsink).
