Hello,

I am playing Nahlakh(1994 RPG) using the D-Fend frontend and in the past have not had any problems but for some reason now when I hit the 'c' key, which is supposed to bring up the auto map in game), I get no response.

I tried messing around a bit with teh various settings and such but I am lost as to what I should do to fix this. Any ideas?

Maybe you should stop using a front-end?

You could tell us what DOSBox version are you using too.

I use the front end because I do not have any desire to mess around with 'mounting' things and command line type crap. In the past the D-fend front end has worked flawlessly so I did not see any reason to not use it.

I apologize for posting in the wrong section. When I first came to the forum for some reason the entire forum was not displaying(after I closed my browser and re-started it I became aware of the fact that there were more appropriate areas to post this in) for me.

I am using 0.73 DosBox.

Did not realize it was "very old". I just now became aware that version 0.74 came out...thus making my 0.73 version so ancient. Also, as I said before, the game WAS running fine with the version I had been using but suddenly now this one in game key command to bring up the auto-map no longer works.

I take it this is not a common issue with any known probable reasons or solutions then...? I will try updating DosBox to the new .74 version and see if that helps. I tried to download and install the "DBGL" frontend from this forum but using that thing is like trying to patch an old game to run in Windows XP without the source code or something.

Thanks you both for trying to help me here BTW. I know us 'noobs' who are no anxious to put in the time and effort to figure out all the ins and outs of Dosbox are probably a bother at times...

I will continue to check back in here just in case.

Okay, using the latest/last D Fend frontend and now the game will not start at all. it freezes at the 'set up' screen (the screen where a bunch of stuff loads for a minute or less normally). I have tried with and without pointing to the set up option.

Can anyone help me? Anyone who has gotten Nahlakh running recently?

It's working here with default settings in DOSBox 0.74. Better to not use a shell when troubleshooting. Try deleting the CONFIG.SET file and running the game to reconfigure the sound.

Tried that. Did nothing. Also this problem persists no matter what front end I use. DBGL 0.74, D.O.G., D-fend reloaded, etc. I may be way wrong about this but that leads me to suspect the problem is with the newest Dosbox even though you say it works for you.

Which version of the game do you have? I have version 1.30 according to the startup screen.

I suspect your problem is a mismatch in how DOSBox is configured for sound and how the game is configured for sound. Choosing the wrong IRQ in the setup causes the game to hang at the point you mentioned, hence my suspicion. With default settings in DOSBox you should choose IRQ 7, port $220, DMA 1 in the setup.

Using 1.30, same as you. I was using IRQ 5 in the set up (the other two are the same as you suggest) so I will try again using IRQ 7. Thanks for your help.

Okay you were right. For some reason I had it stuck in my head that Nahlakh used IRQ 5, instead of 7. Thanks a ton for your help ripsaw8080.
