Can you make your own or buy a cheap alternative somewhere as I dont want to buy another cleaning kit just for the fluid.

I think it's just isopropanol. Rubbing alcohol. Make sure the alcohol you buy dries clear, sometimes there are additives in medical rubbing alcohol.
