I'm trying to get the old pc game Stonekeep running through D-Fend Reloaded. I can run the setup file but I cannot run the actual game. DOSbox tries to open and run it but it just keeps crashing. I've trued different profile settings in D-Fend Reloaded but I keep getting the same results. Any thoughts?

".zip file" ? As in something you downloaded illegally from somewhere? Illegal downloads are not supported here, for reasons including the fact that there is no way of knowing whether all of the game's files are intact and functional.

You can legally purchase Stonekeep at http://www.gog.com/gamecard/stonekeep and it will work perfectly.

Really... I found Stonekeep to be one of the most aggravating games ever. It does not run on any of my PCs.
Only in Dosbox. Did not had so much trouble not even with Ultima 7.

Y2K box: AMD Athlon K75 (second generation slot A)@700, ASUS K7M motherboard, 256 MB SDRAM, ATI Radeon 7500+2xVoodoo2 in SLI, SB Live! 5.1, VIA USB 2.0 PCI card, 40 GB Seagate HDD.

ok...just because I'm buying something doesn't mean the seller has the legal rights to be selling it. and if i did buy it do i still have to run it though DOSbox or D-Fend Reloaded? And no, it wasn't "illegally downloaded". It was free for download from a website. No p2p was used.

In the case of http://www.gog.com , rest assured that they most certainly do have legal rights to be selling it. They are exceptional that way.

While it is packaged with DOSBox, it is completely pre-configured so that you will not have to do anything with D-Fend Reloaded or DOSBox – just run the shortcut from your start menu.

What makes you think the website can't be illegal?

Thanks for the advice. don't know for sure if it wasn't illegal, but it seemed like a legit site. I don't remember which one it was though. I just found it in a search to download stonekeep.

Say it is a legal version packed as a .zip file (which D-fend says should work with the program), does anyone know what my problem might be? I doubt it's my video card or anything else with my computer, unless for some reason D-Fend just isn't compatible with my computer/version of windows 7. I'm using a fairly new Asus laptop.

Like I said before, D-Fend tries to load the game, I've followed instructions to create the profile for the game a few different ways, but every time a DOS window flashes, then my screen flashes black and D-Fend just crashes like I never opened it.

Has anyone else experienced something like this with D-Fend Reloaded (and yes I do have the latest version of D-Fend Reloaded).

There is no such thing.

I already said: there is no way of knowing whether all of the game's files are intact and functional. The game has never been distributed that way; whoever put the zip file together might have done a sloppy job such that there is no way whatsoever to get the game running no matter how much you muck with D-Fend. That is the cost of getting things for "free". You may be better off asking whoever runs the site where you downloaded the zip file from.

If you are still determined to try to get this running, I suggest you start with the 60 Seconds Guide.
