I'm using Abandon Loader 0.8b and trying to run the dos game Master of Magic. I'm trying to use VDMSound, but every time I get this error:

C:\PROGRA~\VDMSound\VDMSRun.pif
%VDMSPATH%\AUTOEXEC.VDMS. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close to terminate the application'

Could somebody please tell me what's wrong????

VDMSPath hasn't taken effect. A reboot of the system may be required if you run Windows XP.

Ok, it doesn't do that anymore, but now I get a "Insufficient Memory" error whenever I try to start a new game in Master of Magic. What's wrong?

I think MoM has been discussed before. Did you try SEARCHING the forums?

Yes. But I couldn't find anything related to this problem. I'm right-clicking on the Magic.exe file, hitting "Run with VDMSound," starting a new game, setting up my Wizard, but then I get the "Insufficient Memory" error. And it makes no sense because I've got 380 mb ram.

I guess you didn't have a PC when it was just DOS? The game is probably referring to a lack of conventional RAM (0-640K). Search the forum/web for details on this and how to configure your DOS environment to have as much as possible. VDMSound uses some of this RAM so it *might* be that the game will never fit though I don't have it and I don't feel like doing your legwork 🙄

Run "mem /c > 203.152.4.36memory.txt" using VDMSound and upload the text file.

Yes, it’s my fault.

How do I do that? You're talking to someone who has no knowledge of Windows command lines (except for things like SET PATH and CD and DIR). I've always used Unix Putty for my command line work on my website scripts. Could someone please give me detailed instructions on fixing this memory error? MoM is my favorite game, and I haven't been able to play it since upgrading to XP.

You open up Notepad, you paste in Snover's line (without the double-quotes), and save as "showmem.bat" (with the quotes around the file-name). Then you "Run with VDMS" this file, and see/attach the result file.

Cheers,
V.

He's *not* 😀 He's just creating a unique filename (probably the IP of the person who posted the message).

That's with VDMSound?

Yes, it’s my fault.

No. It's the text file I got when I ran the batch file. the batch file wouldn't run with VDMSound. How do I get MoM working??? You guys still haven't really helped me 🙁.

You probably need to delete the first text file that was created before running the batch file again with VDMSound. The new file likely can't be created if the old file is still there.

hmmm not sure. Mom is tricky I remember it doing sometimes weird things when I fixed some bugs withit in dosbox.

Remember that master of magic itself is quite bugged as well.
