Ok, before I get started I want to say that I am a complete n00b when it comes to anything DOS. I am moderately well versed in computer knowlege, and I can build one, but for some reason, my brain seems to cloud over and go into hibernation at the mention of DOS or any computer tech that is pre-WIN. (I think it reminds me too much of high school)
Anyway, sorry for rambling...

*** Ok, I just picked up a copy of Ultima Underworld 1+2 on the same cd.

I tried to run it, but, of course, it will not work. I get a box that comes up and says:
****** DOS error********
Drive not ready on drive E
Make sure drive latch is closed!

Ok, first off, I do not have a drive E..🤣
and secondly, there is NO drive latch to speak of. I have a normal cd/dvd drive in which the tray comes out and you put the cd on it and close it.

* I would like to play these games, but I am NOT willing to go through a long, painful and drawnout senerio of headaches and whatnot to do it.
* I am writing here because I am basically curious if there is a reletively simple solution to my problem.
* If this is going to be a "project", please just let me know, and I can not waste my time. I have very little of it and can better spend it actually lplaying games instead of trying to get old ones to work!
(can you tell I am bitter..🤣)
* Please take in to account that I am extremely UN-knowlegeable in this area when answering the post...

THANX

Hello and welcome to this fine forums.

I don't know the differences between CD and floppy versions for Ultima Underworld 1 & 2 (if any). I just want to say that i've got the floppy version and IT NEEDS TO BE PATCHED to be runnable under WinXP. Do a Google search to get the patch. After patching, they both should work without problems using VDMSound or DOSBox. They are more fan-made patches available like enhanced General MIDI music and so on...
