Along with a spate of recent problems on my Voodoo5 rig the MX300 sound card stopped working. Windows detects it as a multi-platform audio device, but when directed to the Diamond drivers folder Win98 says it finds no drivers. Diamond warning pop-up later says card is not present, not working properly or drivers not installed. Drivers are installed.
I've tried the original drivers off the CD, and the 2 updated releases. I also tried older OS images.
First I thought it was a dying motherboard, which is also having trouble, but I swapped motherboards and got the same problem.
The card had been working fine up to the day I experience a number of problems with the rig - corrupted hard drive, no beeps/posts etc. I describe some of this in my prior "Retro Benchmarks" post.
Is this a symptom of a dead/dying sound card? I've never actually had one die on me. I bought the thing new back in the day and it got only light use.
EDIT: Or is it evidence of an ominous spectral presence in my apartment?
