Just wanted to let everyone know that my attempt to build my own high-end computer is, so far, a success! (I'm even typing this message from it!) :D
Granted, it's not turning out "perfectly". The mouse is having an odd scroll-wheel problem which I've sent an eMail to Azio's tech support about. I'm also rapidly learning how loud various computer components are when your case is 50% ventilation holes, though the fans (short of the PSU fan whenever it comes on) are all actually really quiet.
Also, LEDs everywhere. You could light a room with this thing. XD
I haven't put this thing through it's paces yet as I'm still installing drivers and whatnot, and found out in the process that Dad's internet service is only 2.5 Mbps... which I'm pretty sure is half of what it should be. I thought maybe it was a dual-channel problem with my network card but even Dad's non-dual-channel wireless connection on his system is topping out at 2.5... gonna have to call tech support sometime tomorrow and figure out what's going on.
Lastly, Windows 8, so far, hasn't been THAT bad. I've managed to spend 99% of my time away from the Metro interface, which is easy when you use desktop icons. There are some weird things, like only being able to access the control panel while on the desktop, or how IE has both a desktop mode and a Metro mode. I was indeed able to get rid of all of those app icons too, so my Start screen Is basically the Desktop button and then anything else I want on there. :D
The thing boots up a heck of a lot faster than my XP system for sure.
Once I'm done with this message, I'm gonna go load up Minecraft for a first test, then maybe load up Skyrim and see how well that works. ;)
