Hi, we have re-opened Doom speedrun competition known as COMPET-N and most of players use DOSBox for making demos but there is one minor problem and I wonder if anyone can fix it for us 😀

On real PC/DOS:
When you start Doom and after WAD finished with loading, but before the in-game screen is shown Doom would "register" your mouse and keys so you can adjust angle or press run before the game really starts. And when the in-game screen is shown player starts to run. That's a really important thing for speedruners and takes few miliseconds in DOSBox.

In DOSBox (DAUM build), Doom sometimes "register" your mouse/keypresses but when in-game screen is show nothing happens and player is standing still or worse, angle is "reset" to default.

If anyone can fix it we would really appreciate it.

Thank you,

I don't know if this is in fact easily fixable, but odds are if you need that kind of hyperfine accuracy, you probably shouldn't be using DOSBox.

Why not just use Chocolate Doom? You could probably even alter the code to make it behave exactly the way you want.

Well, we started to port Chocolate Doom for new competition already but coder is busy with real life and it's on hold for few months and we don't want to use it without good cheating protection.

I'm not sure what makes you think DOSBox has good cheating protection.

I'll stop talking now.

Yes, I'm aware of DOSBox possibilities. 😁

I believe this is an SDL issue and thus the DOSBox developers can do nothing about, talk to Kimo if you need more info.
