I am trying to get my old Mechwarrior 2 games to work again.

I have the DOS/WIN version that has both the DOS and Windows variants.

When i try to run the install for the DOS version it says that it has to be run off the CD-ROM. If i try to run it as an img file it says it can't find a suitable temporary drive.

Any ideas how i should go about this?

Thank you.

I got it to intstall but every time i try to start the game it says 'this program cannot be run in dos mode' or 'This program must be launched from MECH2.exe'

Do i have the wrong version?

That is what happens when you try to run a Windows game in DOSBox, yes.

You might try this site: http://www.mech2.org/forum/index.php
They are Mechwarrior 2 loyalists, you might pick up some hints there. I couldn't get Dosbox to work in Windows7. Best i could do is get the video clips to run but the games wouldn't load. I have an old, original box running Windows 98 with original equipment and an old CRT monitor (23") so I can run everything from Mechwarrior2, Mercs, Ghost Bear, Pirates Moon, and Mechwarrior3. Others folks seem to get their old games running, but I think that MW was pretty advanced for its day and Dosbox has a problem with it. Wish you the best, if nothing else you can find an old box that works, or build one from Ebay parts. Don't forget that you need a pretty good video card or the gameplay may be choppy. Wish you the best, they are terrific games!
