I'm sorry to bother you guys again, but you're the smartest group of retro pc guru's I know 😜. Usually I can figure this stuff out on my own but I'm stumped.

Trying to install an AWE 64 Value Card (CT4380) into my PC. First thing was to get the CD-ROM Going, so I could grab all the other Creative files. Currently the only thing on the machine is DOS 6.22.

The SBIDE Installer gives me a list of 4 IO Port / IRQ Combos, and I've tried all 4. I've also tried 2 IDE Drives and the result is the same. The Drives light stays on, and the SBIDE says no drives found. The IDE Cable has the red stripe on the > for Pin 1 on the card, and for Pin 1 on the drive.

Am I missing something here?

Try to flip the connector, are you connecting them wrong?

Red stripe is to pin 1 on both the card and the drive. Problem is, I'm not even sure the PC see's the card. CTCM says nothing, and CTCU doesn't list it.

What is the priority - getting the CD drive or the sound card working ? If the latter then just use another PC with a working CD/DVD drive, hook up this hard disk as secondary on that, boot in Windows/Linux etc. and copy the relevant content of the CDROM to the hard disk. Then put the HDD back to the retro system.

This, of course, can be done with a sufficently big capacity HDD only.

Well i figure if I get the sound card working, the SBIDE should come soon after. And the HDD isn't big enough for that, it's only a 540MB in a 486dx2/66 PC.
