Hello,

After taking a long break from playing the free version of Daggerfall from Bethesda I am unable to play.

I keep getting errors saying that dosbox is unable to find the cd. I have re-installed daggerfall multiple times following the guide. I have made changes to the z.cfg files to alter paths. I have tried running the game as fall.exe and z.cfg only to crash to dosbox after choosing a race.

So what is with the mysterious changes to dosbox 0.74 that are making it unable to detect the emulated Daggerfall cd?

I have not touched Daggerfall or Dosbox since I last played so I do not know what could have changed.

Also, why is Daggerfall listed twice on dosbox compatibility?

As far as I know:
There is no need to edit z.cfg
Just mount the image/folder correctly using the right volume label. (the CaSinG MATTERS)

I read somewhere that dagger\fall.exe z.cfg was another way to launch the game.

It did after editing the z.cfg file to change path and pathcd only to crash to dosbox after choosing a race.

Either follow Bethesda's installation guide to the letter, or maybe try my gamepackarchive.

I have...

The only thing I can think of that could be affecting it is windows automatic updates.

Alright. I just downloaded the game, and fair enough, I faced the same problems as the OP, with messages ranging from no cd to wrong cd while tinkering with the z.cfg.

What finally worked was that I labelled the CD path volume as Daggerfall - not DAGGERFALL which I labelled as previously. It's case sensitive. I'm using D-Fend Reloaded, which is much easier for tinkering with game profiles.

And as Qbix said, there is no need to edit the z.cfg file.
