I am having problems running airsim2 with vdmsound. When primary sound driver (directsound) for soundblaster and adblib is selected i get choppy and missing sound. On the website of the manufacturer of airsim it is said to select microsoft sound mapper(wave) but in that case the programs hangs within ten seconds after starting and can only be ended through taskmanager.
Detail is i have a second machine with xp and soundblaster live and there the program is running perfect.
Would like to run it on the following machine however:

Motherboard= Asus p4p800 de luxe
Processor =Intel P4 2800 HT
Ram= 2 x 512 MB 400 Mhz DDRAm
Video= Saphirre Radeon 9600 XT/ 256 MB
SOund Board= Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
Operating System= Win XP/Prof with SP1
Game= Airline SImulator 2 (nomisssoft) patched to level 2.11
Description= Sound is missing fragements and a hissing like more than one speaker on a simplex frequency can be heard if primary sound driver is selected.
If microsoft sound mapper(wave) is selected the program hangs.
Problem is always present within fist 10 seconds of starting the demo flight
Sound Mode= ?????
Video Mode= standard from airsim2 ( i think it is 640/480 in 256 colors)
VDM emulator= 2.1.0

Tried different settings for adlib and soundblaster to no avail.
Have read the readme for vdmsound and airsim but no clue.
(could not find a giveio.sys in processlist of task manager)

Installed everything on second machine with
msi MB/athlon 1.8/soundblaster live 5.1/geforce 4200Ti-8x/win xp-prof and could get the program running with sound.

Will update the airsim forum with a link to this info to see if any help will come from there.

Response will be checked on this forum, but a copy to killerbee1958@hotmail.com would be appreciated

The sound drivers on the first machine ar crap, or there are hardware (PCI slot used by card etc.) or software (weird stuff running in the background) problems that make the soudcard have trouble perform under stress.

Thanks for your remark.

I have installed the latest driver for the audigy2 from creative (031031).
Do you know if any old driver is still available to test?

I do agree that the audigy2 is probably the most probable cause. Still i would love to have vdmsound work with the audigy2 also since the card is a nice piece of equipment for all other sound applications

Thanks in advance for your positive reply

I'm afraid that the drivers are really the problem here - even my cheapest of the cheap SB128 doesn't hang the application that uses it when working with WaveOut!

All I can recommend is use DirectSound + larger VDMSound buffer (the sound latency will be high, but...) Also see if the generic drivers that come with windows itself install and/or are any better.

Cheers,
V.

Hello All,

I tried using direct sound both native and throught audigy2 but both give the same problem even when having the buffer at > 250 ms.
The sound is missing and hissing.
So i am still looking for old audigy2 drivers.
In the meantime i upgraded my ati drivers to 4.1, but to no avail.
Looking further for old audigy2 drivers.

Thanks for the help sofar
