I want to do some floppy read/write speed benchmarks.
Is there an DOS tool that allows me to see at what speeds is the floppy drive writing and reading?

I saw in MHDD's floppy maker application that it shows the current floppy writing speed. So that kind of a tool should exist, right?

I want to do this because Adaptec AHA-1542 has a jumper that says: Floppy double speed ON/OFF

Ok, so it seems that it doesn't double the speed but its actually for drives that have dual speed spindle motor:

method one: Fill a drive with 1 big file, 2 smaller files and a bunch of tiny files. use a stopwatch to see how long it takes to copy from and to the floppy disk. repeat with 2x speed.

I have one drive with jumpers behind it 357 model. I hear those are for speed regulation.

I checked that section in my manual and it says to only use that jumper setting with double speed rotational fdd drive.

give it a shot. I can't see how it would hurt anything. If mine wasn't in storage i'd do it myself. But i would leave the floppy settings alone, at least.

From what I recall, due to the nature of saving information to floppy discs, there isn't supposed to be much variation in the speeds of drives.
