In Windows 7 32 bit I could print from a dos program using the command:
netuse lpt1: \\server\printername
This doesn't work in Windows 8 64bit so I am trying DosBox 0.74
The netuse command is not recognised in the dosbox. I tried writing it in the conf file where it doesn't generate an error message, but also doesnt seem to have any effect.
How can I print with a USB printer in dosbox?

No game needs it, so it is not implemented. Hopefully never will be.
There is a port of DOSBox which supports printing, but I don't know its source yet.

DosBox SVN Daum is a modified version that supports printing.

Go to Download>SVN builds to get a copy.
In the config under printer, change printer=true and printeroutput=printer, then under parallel, parallel1=printer. This should open a text dialog box where you can select a printer normally if your program is printing to serial port 1.

No game needs what? Printing? Oxyd is a game prints a certificate when you complete it (I have one). It's nice, but you can always take a screenshot and print it outside of DOSBox. I'm sure that there are other examples.
However, no known game has a really compelling reason to add printing support to DOSBox.
These are two quite different things.

  • My thanks go to zethek who brought the solution to my problem. I do not use dosbox for games but to use my selfmade FoxBase databaseprogram for my books. Dosbox Daum does have an (albeit simple) printing feature. It proved impossible to print to my printer (wrong layout so there were only a few words per page) but i can print to a .prt file that can be used in Word and so printed. Thanks a lot!! 😀

Also, to add to the list, Wesson International's old "Air Traffic Controller" and "Tracon", as well as BAO's "Tower" has the ability to print "flightstrips" (ATC talk) while playing those games... VERY handy when playing these sims 😀

Mario Teaches Typing allows you to print out certificates for completing each level if I recall. Other typing/educational games probably do the same.

Some RPGs from Event Horizon/Dreamforge come to mind too.
