I just have a suggestion or two for features to add to DOSBox, and a method of testing which seems to work well for me.
First the suggestions:
#1: Add a command to enable/disable the third mouse button for when you don't want it available (like when I'm playing Tyrian).
#2: Include a small benchmark program to find how many CPU cycles your system can handle.
#3: Add a command-line parameter to specify the number of CPU cycles to use.
Now, the testing method:
You know those old demos by groups like Triton or Future Crew? Well, they make ideal testing programs for finding what works with DOSBox. I've only tested 6 such demos, but here are my results:
Second Reality, Future Crew: nearly everything works in Ultrasound mode, SBPro mode, on the other hand, still leaves something to be desired.
Panic, Future Crew: Noisy sound, pauses in sound, DODBox displays message about dma unsync, gets stuck doing second part endlessly.
Unreal, Future crew: graphics problems on some parts, noisy sound.
Timless, Tran: seems to work fine, except for noisy sound.
Ambience, Tran: video glitchomania, noisy sound.
Crystal Dream 2, Triton: seems to work okay with sound on Ultrasound or PC speaker, SB does not work.
These tests were all done with v0.61 of DOSBox.
