It is the same issue with Fatal Racing / Whiplash having different names on the US and European release. Since every other lists consider them separate releases I've done the same.

One way or another it makes sense to list alternate names because these sorts of lists have global appeal. 😀

For what it's worth I have it on good authority that the Bitboys Oy/Tritech SG Pyramid3D card had its own proprietary 3D API called, oddly enough, P3D API. 😀

Do you know if this API as something they thought of when the card was first announced, and something they kept with the card? It was supposed to be released late 1997 after delays, at which point I don't think there would be much point in having its own API.

Yes to both. Direct3D didn't offer the full capabilities of the card at the time, hence their own API. Timber's infamous Beyond3D thread shows the Programmer's Reference Manual and talks about P3DAPI.dll, etc.
http://beyond3d.com/showthread.php?t=50787
Other discussion at Beyond3D hints at this. Other than the demo software Tim had, I don't think any games made it out that supported P3D API.

For vetz:

BRender isn't a proprietary API, but reasonably uncommon 3D API/engine from the mid-90's.

Interesting BRender note, may have been mentioned here before:
http://www.cwaboard.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=9020

It links to a collection of most BRender device drivers. Inside the collection:
3DFX_DOS
3DFX_WIN:glide.dll,sst1init.dll
DDRAW:ddraw.dll
DIRECT3D:ddraw.dll,d3dim.dll
MYST_WIN:msi95.dll
RAGE_DOS
RAGE_WIN:ati3dcif.dll,ati3dcor.dll
S3_WIN:s3dtkw.dll,ddraw.dll

So across its editions we see BRender supported cards/APIs that were released include:
- 3Dfx Voodoo Graphics /Voodoo2 etc. (DOS - this may be low-level, not even static compilation, not using an API)
- 3Dfx Voodoo series (Glide 2.x) (Windows)
- Alliance ProMotion AT3D
- Artist Graphics 3GA
- ATI 3D Rage (series?) (DOS - this may be "low-level", not using an API)
- ATI 3D Rage series: I/II/II+/IIc/Pro/LT Pro (ATI 3D CIF) (Windows)
- Creative Labs 3D Blaster (GLINT)
- Matrox Mystique (Matrox Simple Interface / MSI) (Windows)
- Microsoft DirectDraw (Windows)
- Microsoft Direct3D (Windows)
- Rendition Vérité V1000
- S3 Virge series (S3D Toolkit) (Windows) - 86C325 ViRGE, 86C375 ViRGE/DX, 86C385 ViRGE/GX, 86C260 ViRGE/MX, 86C988 ViRGE/VX

And according to their 1996 website:
http://web.archive.org/web/19961220182715/htt … w.argonaut.com/
They also supported:
- 3Dfx (Quantum3D) Obsidian
- 3Dlabs Creative 3D Blaster (probably the Game GLINT one)
- Brooktree BTV2120
- Samsung KS82C614A Double Dragon
- Philips Semiconductor Tasmania (using Yamaha's YGV612 RPA2 3D chip)

In 1997, "Dio" was working on the following (https://forum.beyond3d.com/threads/help-me-re … e-2#post-799904 )
- S-MOS SPC1515 PIX
- Oak Technologies Inc. OTI-64317 (Warp5, aka Warp 5)
- one other

However, those device drivers seem to be unreleased, a few of the chips were unreleased/limited run as well.
More BRender games have yet to be gone through though.
I don't think anyone's done BDD swapping to test compatibility etc.

Criterion Renderware
-------------------------
Also a 3D engine which specifically listed support of 3D accelerators.
Some of below according to vetz's notes already.

Redline Racer (1998, Ubi Soft/Criterion)
Backyard Football (1999, Humungous Entertainment) (?)
Rayman 2: The Great Escape (1999, SCEA/Ubi Soft) (?)
Suzuki Alstare Extreme Racing (1999, Ubi Soft/Criterion) (?)
Trickstyle (1999, Acclaim/Criterion) (?)

Renderware 2.x seems to only support Direct3D and Glide on Windows, and seems to not support DOS.

I am not sure where the device drivers are located.

I would like to try some well supported Renderware 3d game, but looking at Speedboat Attack there was no sign of hardware acceleration. Rayman 2 was definitely dx and glide.

vetz, can you alphabetize the S3D list and put Terracide Demo above the appropriate "T" games? I nearly wrote you to suggest adding it 😉

Also, I'd recommend, if you can, saying under each API title (ex. "S3d Toolkit") _precisely_ what chips the API usually works on, if possible.

I've fixed the Terracide entry in the S3D list. Somehow it was not in the correct spot.

I've been wanting to make a chart showing which S3 Virge and S3 Trio 3D cards that works with the different S3D games. I do not own all the cards yet and thus can't complete it. Generally I've gotten the GX2 to work with all S3D games except Battle Race. Terminal Velocity runs, but have glitches.

In another story I'm testing out Destruction Derby 2 for the Matrox Mystique. I'm so amazed how rushed that product is that I want to make a review of it 😜

EDIT: Just noticed that the PC Plus review of 3D Blaster VLB, Matrox Millennium and Diamond Edge 3D had been deleted. Luckily I had made a local copy earlier! 😎
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/57506833/ … s/PCP117_3d.pdf
I'll go through the reviews and see if the links are OK. External ones not from archive.org will be saved incase they get deleted. If anyone have any early reviews not included, please let me know! Would love to have more of them.

As said in the other thread:
CyberSpeed Demo appears to be Rendermorphics Reality Lab engine and perhaps has 3DLabs GameGlint support:
Possible Proof: Here's a game demo, appears to also call GIGI in the Reality Lab folder - 3DLabs support maybe?
3DLabs GiGi is also known as the Game GLINT chip...

I downloaded the demo and took a look at it. The funny thing is that the GIGI.dll files is not included in the retail version when I did a comparison. It is a VERY early Windows 95 game which ran like crap on my P133 with Matrox Mystique. Support is included according to this press release (which I have forgotten to add to the debunked list earlier). After making this list I know that press releases should be taken with a grain of salt, but it is possible that this game did not come with support through CGL, but Rendermorphics. I've had problems getting my 3D Blaster VLB working with the Windows 95 drivers, so I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to test it. Anyway, I'm in the process of moving and all my main stuff is packed away so can't test straight away.

Yes, I figured. Is it a Criterion Renderware game though? Should be able to scan through the game folder for files with the contents "Renderware". It seems confirmed it used Renderware on the Dreamcast, and it is a Criterion-developed game...

Am starting to think Renderware 2.0 games are unhackable and compiled only for the cards they're intended to support. Hopefully Renderware 1.0 games are different. We'll find out from NitroX Infinity's research.

Yes, and don't forget Sub Culture.

Added. But how do you confirm it is a Renderware game aside from the credits? any files to look for, etc?
