I'm trying to get the game to run under XP Home. My specs are:

Athlon XP 1800+
256MB RAM
NTFS formatted hard drive
Radeon 9500 Pro 128 video card

When I right click on the Xeen executable, it gives me an error that the CD-ROM is not found or MSCDEX.EXE isn't loaded. I enabled CD-ROM extensions in the autoexec. but now when I right click on it and select run with VDMS, it goes to a blank DOS box with VDMSound in the title bar. Help! 😒

I have been getting the same exact error. At first I'd get a blank screen, but after getting VDMS it gave me the MCSDEX error. I found MSCDEX.EXE off Google, and tried putting it in every concievable Windows folder, and it still doesn't recognize it.

You should try SapuCDEX. Another MSCDEX implementation/replacement, but remember to disable "enable low-level cd-rom access" before trying it. 😎

CD version of World of Xeen should work in DOSBOX. Just remember using -ioctl or -aspi when mounting CD (default SDL CD ROM support is not enough).
For further info search DOSBOX forums. This game was discussed there quite extensively.
