So i have this motherboard branded A-trend model ATC-5000 vers 3.0 bios version 1.04

img0839oz.jpg

The board has 3 official newer bios versions 1.05,1.06 and 1.07 and a 1.08a unofficial modified version, which increases the hard drive limit over 128g.
My problem is that no matter what bios version i try to upgrade to, award flash gives me the same message that the: file does not match my hardware.
The 1.05 and 1.06 vers i downloaded from http://web.archive.org/web/19980204183152/htt … .tw/index2.html and they still give me that message.

So what is the problem?are the bios files for another version of the mainboard?maybe vers 1.0 or 2.0?

While searching for a solution i read some guy saying that even if u get the message u should go ahead and install the new vers couse it will work,so i,m unsure what to do,go ahead and try it,or just leave it alone since the pc is working fine.

If the PC is working fine and you do not plan on installing a hard drive larger than 128 GB, there is indeed no reason to update the BIOS. Why tempt fate?

Possibly, some motherboards have different BIOS versions for different board revisions.

You could try UNIFLASH and see if that works.

If you are squeamish, don't prod the beach rubble.

I wanted to update the bios, becouse i,m getting a K6 200mhz proc and altough the manual of the mb says K6 proc are supported and gives info about how to set jumpers for them, when i was searching info about the mb when i first got it,i found the information that bios version 1.06 adds K6 support and since i have version 1.04 i thought it would be a good idea to update it,to avoid any problems when installing the proc.
But now i think i'll just wait until i get the K6,try it out ,see if it works with the mb.

What version of the Award flash utility were you trying to use? If it was a newer one, i.e., 8.x or one of the later 7.x versions, then that may be the problem... newer versions of the utility don't tend to like the older BIOSes.

Well first time i tried with version 8.33,now i tried with 5.33 downloaded with bios version 1.06,from old abit site http://web.archive.org/web/19980204183152/htt … index2.html,but this also gives me the message, plus sometimes while checking the bios file,it hangs the pc,so i have to restart,so definatly not going to update the bios with this version of awardflash, wouldn't want the damn thing hanging my pc in the middle of bios writing.

I managed to solve the update problem, after digging on older A-trend sites on the wayback machine,i stumbled upon some info about resetting the bios before update, with the reset jumper on the mb.
Once i did that, the update went without any problems.
