I've run the game's setup file, and I have the sound running just fine. The game runs the intro, and I'm able to choose my hero, but after that, the game crashes, and gives me the following error message : Not enough memory ! Please run with more main memory or EMS (max 256k)

I tried going in to the DOSbox options, and changing the memory to 25mb, 26mb, 27mb and 30mb (despite the fact that it recommends leaving the memory at 16mb) but it didn't help. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, or what I need to change to fix this. (Besides, 16mb should have been more than enough memory, right? 256kb is like 0.25mb?)

I'm fairly computer illiterate, so here's what my computer tells me I have -

Windows 8
Processor: Intel Core i7-3632QM CPU @ 2.20GHz 2.20 GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 8.00GB (7.90 GB usable)
System type: 64-bit OS, x64-based processor

I have some sort of Radeon graphics card, but I'm not exactly sure what one. I just see that I have a "Radeon Graphics" sticker on my laptop.
Also, when installing DOSbox, I installed into the "Program Files" rather than the "Program Files (x86)". I don't know if that makes a difference, because I think I read that it does not matter where you choose to install.

Can anyone help me out?

Unfortunately I can't confirm with my copy of the game. It works out of the box for me. All I did was I installed it from the disk, then configured the sound settings and it worked like a charm. Now others will tell you immediately that you should read the ancient 60 second guide located here, but that can be confusing for people like you with basic computer knowledge.

You can find the guide here: 60 seconds guide to getting your game to run in DOSBox

If that's hard to follow then please read on, and here's a game specific guide that should be easy to follow. All you need is the game disk you own and nothing more. Oh and I guess the manual to look up the copy protection codes, or rather words.

Now here's what I do always when I'm testing a game. I usually make a test folder on my C:\ drive in Windows. This will be the place where I will install the game. You can name it anything or even use another location, but the mount commands will be different that way. Now prepare your DOSBox and reset the configuration file. There's an option in the for that in the Start menu or the folder where DOSBox is installed. Run that or delete it manually from the AppData folder. Any of those will do it.

Next you insert the disk in your drive and check the drive letter of your optical drive in Windows. Remember that because you will need it later. In my case it's F:\ because I have a few hard drives and partitions. You will replace it with your drive letter. Then run DOSBox and start mounting stuff. Commands are the following:

mount c c:\test
mount d f:\ -t cdrom

Now switch to D:\ by typing the same command. There are two ways to install the game. One is by typing GO and pressing Enter and the other one is by changing the directory to REUNION.ENG and running INSTALL. Both do the same thing and even the GO option launches the second option. So check which one works. If the first method works then you can click Install Game and then Install from the drop down list. And all you have to do is press Enter because Install option should be highlighted by default.

d:\
go

or

d:\
cd reunion.eng
install

Wait for the files to be copied over and you will get a message which will say Installation Completed. Press Enter or click OK. Now depending on the option you have chosen you will be be sent back to GO or the DOS prompt. Just click the red Exit button because you have installed the game already.

Now switch to C:\ and run SETUP. It will ask you about the sound card. I have chosen Sound Blaster Pro so I pressed 2. For IO address 220h and for the interrupt number 7. If you did everything correctly you have installed the game. Before running the game type cycles max and run the game by typing in START and pressing Enter.

cycles max
start

That's it! Now skip the intros and press NEW GAME. If you still get the error something is wrong with your copy. Probably it's corrupted, or you don't own the game. If that's the case, please buy a copy of the game from Ebay or other sources. Hope this helped! Enjoy this masterpiece made by some cool Hungarian developers. Ha magyar vagy akkor gondolom tudod miről beszélek. 😎

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a detailed reply! I really appreciate it 😄

I got this game back with my very first PC, and it's always been a favourite of mine. I was upset when I wasn't able to use it with newer versions of Windows, so I'm glad there's still a way to play it 😁
