I was thinking the same thing about the breakout box but as far as I can find there basicly the same.

They are most certainly not the same, as the actual MPU-IPC-T's breakout box lacks the "SYNC" port. I suggest getting either a matching interface card or a matching breakout box before assuming that either has gone bad. Roland's various breakout boxes are generally not interchangable, even as they seem to provide comparable functionality.

I sincerely hope that's the case. I'll try and pick up a matching breakout box next pay day.

the breakout box is for the IPC version, not the IPC-T ! it should write MPU-IPC-T on the breakout box as well!

when I get my hands on a T box i'll update the thread and let everyone know if that was the issue. I'm hoping it is.

just to update I got my mpu-ipc-T breakout box today and all works fine now.

I have noticed that the volume output from the mt-32 is pretty low. with the mt-32 and my speakers turned to max its maybe average loudness but then the digital effects from the sound blaster are ear shattering loud. is there another place I need to adjust the volume or is this just a quirk of these setups?

We would need to more about your speaker system.

Your Sound Blaster, have you got it configured to line-out?

The MT-32 has a volume dial, but that's all you can do. The output is line-level and certainly needs amplification.

The headphone out on later CM units is much stronger in comparison.

What I use is a 4 channel Stereo mixer before going into the powered speakers. It has adjustment dials for every input and that works quite well.

The other option is to route the MT-32 into the line-in of your Sound Blaster and then use the Sound Blaster mixer to set the line-in higher and reduce the speech volume.
