Hey All,

Just started working on a new build.

Motherboard BCM QS754
CPU AMD Athlon 500 Classic (Slot A)
Video Diamond Viper V770 TNT2 AGP

Still need to find a case but looking forward to doing some benchmarks 😀

I've always found the Slot A Athlons a bit interesting as they were great CPUs for the time but it seems somewhat unpopular (at least the low 500-650 ones).

I only have on Slot-A Athlon system in the collection, they were not that common at the time. Funny how there are a million socket Athlon systems out there.

Love the Slot A's. Especially the Argon Athlons. My 550 is paired with a Creative TNT2 Ultra 😀

So many combinations to make, so few cases to put them in.

Those builds are fast and had one my self but don't like dealing with the cooling. The boards are not easy to find but demand isn't high so they can be pretty cheap.

On a far away planet reading your posts in the year 10,191.

A revolutionary CPU but the chipsets (and boards) are kind of third rate most of the time. Especially with AGP compliance.

I've a ASUS K7M in the drawer.

A board with the AMD Irongate chipset is a must for a slot A Athlon build if you ever want to upgrade to a Thunderbird in the future.

I agree. Irongate+Viper is the most solid Slot A platform. And perfect for a V5 setup 😁
