There is some VESA support in DOSBOX. However I think that only some 8 bit modes are supported and lower resolutions (so 16 bit 1024*768 etc. is no go).
UniVBE should work (older version), it should detect S3 card.

In any case we need more details - which game do you have problem with?

Ok, once you extract it to c:\univbe, how do you use it with DOSBox. It's not obvious what to do next.

Univbe won't help in getting 16bit modes anyway.

Well, IMHO it is obvious - you must run it !:
1. UVCONFIG (If it complains about unsupported graphic, download older version of UNIVBE. It should identify S3 graphic card.)
2. UNIVBE (this is the main part).
3. You can VBETEST to see that it is really installed 😀

As Harekiet said, it will not help you with 16 bit modes (which are not supported in DOSBOX). It just adds support for VESA 2.0 (internally DOSBOX supports VESA 1.2)
