I have a quick question I just wanted some clarity on. If i'm using something like say a Virge card and I play a game for example Tomb Raider and i'm NOT running the S3D version is the card doing any 3d acceleration or is it all happening in software?

also on that note is there a s3d patch of tomb raider like there is for a voodoo or do you have to track down a s3d version of the game on disc?

You have to download the patch for S3D rendering in Tomb Raider. It is available in this thread with all the other patches/games/info on S3D supported games.

awsome thank you, forgot about that thread.

anouther question. I noticed a patch for tomb raider and the ATI Rage. I have a Rage II but I thought the Rage did not have a proprietary API so is the card using D3D or OpenGL with Tomb Raider?

well, been playing around with diffrent cards in tomb raider. any suggestions on getting the matrox mystique version working for tomb raider? I used the patch from the link above but when I go to play it goes through all the FMV stuff fine but when it gets to the menu screen its just gibberish lines on the screen and mostly black. I can hear the music and sound effects but just a bunch of lines on screen. I tried older and new drivers for the mytique and have had the same effect.

Drivers? What drivers? The Mystique Patch for Tomb Raider is meant for DOS. (According to the README it is possible to run it from Windows 95 but it is recommended to run it from DOS.)

IIRC tombraider either had separate patches for the 2 and 4mb mystiques or needed a 4mb card

from what i'm finding there is only 1 patch that covers both

its been awhile guys, how does one load the CD drivers for DOS under win98. i went into dos mode and installed dos cd drivers but after the restart they never loaded.

also do i need an MSI.dll for the mystique api maybe? I know when I downloaded the patch for the rage3d I had to also download the CIF.dll separately

ATI CIF is only available in Windows. The ATI port is the only version of Tomb Raider 1 that has a native Windows executable.
All other TR1 ports are for DOS, including the PowerVR ports whereas all PowerVR ports for other games are for Windows.
