Hi people.

That's my first post here, so ... Hello all.

I have a short question to start with - I'm about to flash the BIOS of an old Socket 7 MB - Epox MVP3E-M (hope to get support for K6-3+)

Should I use a flash utility (I think it was award bios, but the mobo is not in front of me, so I can't confirm - anyway, the question is the same either Ami or Award), so should I use a flash utility version from those times? And what version would fit best?

Or I can use any version of Award flash? Unfortunately, the BIOS file archive does not contain anything else but the BIOS itself.

Thanks

Be careful with updating the BIOS. If you don't 100% know what you're doing you can end up with a dead motherboard 😀

Then you need to hotflash or use an external flash programmer.

I had great success with UniFlash in case I couldn't find the right flash utility.

Still trying to find the correct version of AWDflash. No success. I'll rather use ver 7+ and hope it do the job. In case of no success, I'll try the Uniflash

I can recommend you not to flash to old Eprom chip.. Becaust when its getting wrong, you lose your bios chip... And what i can say about it is that is very hard to find an other compatible / orginal bios for it..
The chances are very limited.. And dont hassle with old flashing software..

Much better is the take out the old eprom and leave it in case you need it as a backup..
Then use a USB eprom writer from ebay en buy a same empty eprom chip..

Then flash the new eprom.. And test it in your motherboard.. If it working fully you need to take a electronic black tape en tape the window from that new eprom chip off..
And then better leave to old eprom as spare if something goes wrong in the future, then you could always undo the new eprom if it isnt working correctly after a month or so..
If the system is working with the new eprom after a couple months you can always empty your old eproms..

But dont waste your old eprom, because you can always fall back..

~ At least it can do black and white~
