I'm looking to compile a "top ten list" of common, problematic DOS games with PCI sound cards. We all know that most PCI sound cards trump noisy ISA Soundblasters in quality, but we have to give up compatibility to do so. Compatibility with what though?

I can start the list. The one game I can't seem to get working outside of a real ISA card is Alone in the Dark. What are some good others? This way when new (and old) users want to try out a variety of PCI sound cards, we have a collection of games to have them try.

I never got digital sound working on Sound Blaster Live 5.1 with any Sierra and Dynamix game.

Mostly any game that can't run with EMS enabled (at least SB PCI cards need EMS to work under DOS).
No idea how many that are, I only know about Ultima 7 Part 1+2

I assume that you had the DOS SB drivers installed, too.

Yep, the TSR and everything. Digital sound did work with most other games when I tried 12 years ago.

Just making sure that this was not a matter like that of earlier PCI cards where it would not play MIDI in DOS games played in Windows if the DOS driver was not installed, including its entry in the AUTOEXEC.BAT. I seem to remember that it was harder to get DOS sounds about the time of that WDM drivers were introduced. Going back to earlier drivers seemed to work for me. I guess I had moved on to Win2k/XP by the time I had a card that only shipped with WDM drivers.
