When I try blood with cycles=max, core=dynamic, it runs perfectly smooth and uses 15% host cpu
When I try blood with cycles=max, core=normal/full, it runs very slowly and uses 15% host cpu

I would have thought host CPU would be the bottleneck for core=static, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

What it the bottleneck when core=normal or core=full ?

you have a multicore processor ?
(i7 ?) As this looks like one of the cores being maxed out.

I do (4770k) .. but strange, process explorer with "show one graph per CPU" shows none of the cores are maxed out. I see 8, I assume 4 extra from hyperthreading.

Windows balances load between cores, so that's why you might see 50% on two cores instead of 100% and 0% for example.
