Looking to find a Geforce2 Ultra. Over the past few weeks, ebay has shown what appears to be Quadro2 based cards being mistakenly labeled as Ultras. The occasional Dell or Compaq shows up too. I assume those could be Quadro2 also. This series seems to be difficult for me to pinpoint. Well I don't want a Dell or Compaq (etc) branded one. Wouldn't I rather have one from a more sporty vendor?

Does anyone recall who made such cards and what they were called? Some Googling stumbled me across one back in the day called Hercules 3D Prophet II. So far the only one I've seen with DVI and by a vendor that would be desirable.

You should be aware that even if the card has DVI you can still use only VGA or DVI.

Im not sure that a Quadro would be so bad.

I have a "Compaq" Quadro4 980 XGL.
Its a Geforce4 ti 4800 AGP 8x with a diffrent name and it works with the normal drivers.
Its even a good overclocker!
Perhaps the same is true for the Geforce2 line of cards?

Ah! Didn't realize that. That's ok though. Thanks!

Quadro 2 Pro cards will work with regular GeForce drivers are about the same as a GF2 Ultra; I don't remember where I got the Quadro but this is exactly what I did back in the day. The Quadro variant have noticeable color accuracy superiority and I didn't notice any speed difference in any of the games I played.

The problem you're having finding GeForce 2 Ultras isn't so much their rarity but rather the fact that most (if not all) of the OEM boards don't actually say what they are on them. This is probably leading to a lot of them getting thrown out.

Here is an example of the OEM card I own. The seller actually had to write "GF2 Ultra" on the sticker because he wouldn't have been able to identify the card otherwise:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NVIDIA-GeForce-2-Ultr … =p2047675.l2557

Try searching for the part number on that sticker instead.

This would make sense based on what I've been seeing. Getting that kind of historical knowledge is what I've been looking for. I'll try finding based on your ebay suggestion too.

I have a Quadro2 that looks almost identical to that card. The only thing that appears different, is that mine had some kind of pin headers onboard right next to the GPU, where this card appears to be missing them. It's the 2 un even length rows. I am not sure what they are for, but I have seen some other cards on ebay that have what looks like a daughter board attached. The smaller board then appears to be part of for what looks like a tv out. And one time the "tv-out" only had 2 pins. So I really have no idea what that would be.

It's been a very long time but I vaguely seem to remember these pins. I don't recall if they were ever used.

Good luck on your search. I have very font memories of my GeForce 2 Ultra and I regretted selling it. I was ecstatic to run across the DVI variant in a junk pile at a computer shop and it will now remain a permanent part of my collection. 😀

Back in the early days, the professional grade cards and the consumer grade cards used the same hardware. They differed only in the BIOS and drivers. Professional grade cards were optimized with color and pixel placement accuracy in mind while consumer grade cards were optimized more towards high framerates in games. In many cases a BIOS flash and/or using drivers designed for the other would work.

I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but with the Quadro2 Pro, doesn't it share the board layout with the GeForce2 Ultra, yet is clocked a little bit lower? And the GeForce2 that has the same clocks as the Quadro2 Pro, comes with a lesser board layout?

Yea the Quadro 2 Pro (Elsa Gloria III) is more or less the same card as the Geforce 2 Ultra but with another BIOS and the same clocks as the Geforce 2 ti which in turn is a cost reduced model.

If adjusting the clocks manually there is no disadvantage with going with the Quadro 2 Pro, if it looks like an Ultra...

That's great. Has anyone flashed or modified a Quadro into a GeForce?

I have not tried "crossflashing" as my Quadro 2 Pro has a DVI port which the Ultra normally do not have, Im thinking that perhaps the DVI port wont work with the Ultra BIOS.

When it comes to functionality I do not think it matters as the Quadro 2 Pro can use the same drivers as the Geforce 2.

I've recently inventoried all my graphics cards and apparently I don't have a single FG2 Ultra with 64MB, except for an ASUS card which has 64MB....but I actually googled around and couldn't really figure out what type of GF2 it is.

This is the part number as I've written it down: AGP-V7700(D)
Is this an ultra? I'll go get that card out of the box (I still haven't put my graphics cards back into storage so it's very little effort for me anyway 😀 ).

edit: The ASUS site is a mess, I just can't seem to maneuver to the page of old drivers and manuals. Did ASUS finally remove these?
And the card seems to be a GTS, but I simply can't seem to get any confirmation. Guess I'll just have to pop off the cooler and check the GPU itself 😁

edit2:
Alas, it's a GTS 🤣
Well, was gonna give it a clean anyway 😁

V7700 should be a TNT II Ultra.
