Anybody with such experience? I tried today, hooked a module to a joystick port through Gravis UltraSound MIDI adapter, but to no avail. MPU-401 gets recognized on port 330h, however, the external synth won't show any signs of MIDI data coming.

I did this a while ago, worked perfectly for me. Not sure what the GUS MIDI adapter is, I used a standard game port to MIDI cable. Make sure to plug MIDI Out into MIDI In on the synth.

You may have to unmute the MPU-401 device for it to send a signal. Some devices list it as "video" in the mixer.
