Hi,
I am still frequently playing The Grandest Fleet, a strategic dos-game from 1995. In those days with a simple computer, but now using Dosbox.
It seems that however fast new processors are and how fast I set the cycle speed, this increase only applies to (graphic) movement in the game. It does not seem to influence the time the game's AI needs to calculate its next move (the game is turn-based). When progressed far in the turn, it may run up to 2-3 minutes before the AI reveals its next move.
Have I done the correct changes to Dosbox?

Any suggestions much appreciated 😉.

Kind regards

Try pressing and holding Alt-F12 (turbo) while waiting for the AI to process its turn, then release the keys when it's your turn.

Hi - I tried it several times, but pressing and holding alt-f12 does not make any difference...

Make sure that a "Fast Forward ON" message appears in the console window when holding Alt-F12. A game that is being held back by some form of timing should run faster with Alt-F12. For example, DOOM and Quake run comically fast. However, I suppose that it may have little effect when a game is truly CPU-bound.

I think the game uses real mode, so see if settings of core=dynamic cycles=max give better speed. It might seem like cycles=max would be too fast, but it is actually an adaptive setting.
