Here's the jist of it.

My brother has MW2 DOS version, as well as Titanium trilogy.

He prefers the DOS Version, but it was badly damaged. We spent an hour trying to copy the CD's entire contents to the hard drive, and we finally succeeded.

We tried again, but I think the CD has gone to god now.

Unfortunately, the game needs the CD to run, and I haven't been able to find any information on how to get the game running with all the files copied onto the hard drive.

Everything I've read always says to install the game first from the CD, and is always about using the CD while playing.

Well, the CD is caput. So can anyone help me out here?

So strange how a pressed CD degrades so fast in a modern PC. Maybe you should get a replacement off ebay, or clean the gunk that got smeared all over it.

There are NOCD fixes for Mechwarrior 2 but the game really isn't the same without the CD audio.

You're better off having the physical CD or a image of the CD. If you look hard enough you'll be able to find it. Just don't ask for a copy here unless you plan to purchase it.

Does this game use SafeDisc or SecuROM or some other copy protection of that nature? Because such discs would inherently appear to be "badly damaged" depending on how you tried to read them.

I once fixed (part of) the cd-check for the dos version and that was just a hidden file.

I just got TIE Fighter working VIA and iso image in place of the CD. Would the same work here? And, if I had all that setup, should the DOS version run under DosBox without any problems?

Mech2's a tricky one to image for the said hidden file-based DRM.

Well, I guess I'll have to do like I did with my aging and degrading XP Pro disc. I cloned a new one with CloneCD, so I'll do the same here.
