Well.... Someone paid that price a little bit over a month ago...
NIB Commodore 128D $3800 😲

I know they're not that common, but even for a NIB that's a lot of money.
Well it's not NIB anymore 😀

I said NEW in box not SEALED or MINT in box. It can be in an opened box and still be new.
I had some psycho flip out on me when I had the nerve to send him a sealed game I'd purchased brand new from a store without notifying him that it had a tear in the shrink wrap. I purchased a replacement which I made an extra effort to clean with isopropyl alcohol, and he told me that no, that leaves streaks and you have to use lighter fluid. Damn near ruined trading for me forever.

He was probably one of those crazy people who submits their games to a grading service. Torn/missing shrinkwrap loses points.

Not so much humourous, and not exactly retro 'gear' although related, but rather a sign of how rare(?) this stuff is gettting (as most people just recycled it long time ago):

12 issues of PC Gamer UK 1997, ended at..... £205(yes, that is two HUNDRED and five smackers)
Man, I wonder what I'd have to pay for issue 28(March 1996) if it ever is available for sale... (yes, I DO need that issue, if someone should happen to etc.. 😎 )
PS: the lot is still not paid for, so who knows, but seems like a 'normal' auction so far - I suppose £17 per issue is tolerable if you know they'll most likely never come up for sale again....

And I who have the all the magazines from 1997 to 1999 of the Swedish edition of PC Gamer... Guess it's worth something even though it's the wrong language? 😜
I also have alot of the Swedish edition of PC Gamer in a box in a shed at my parents place.
I noticed it when I found my old late 90s systems in the same shed a few months ago.
I think I have the CDs somewere aswell.
My guess is that the Swedish edition will become valuable in about 100 years or so when the Swedish Empire has been reborn out of the the ashes of the globlal collapse.
Or not at all.

The joke is on them. Many pieces of software are re-shrink wrapped before they are even sold. The reason is the factory wrap could have been damaged during shipping to the retailer or while it was on the shelf waiting to be sold.
The super system is back!

The only 386 machine I'd even consider paying that much for is a Compaq SystemPro.

THE RAREST HIGHLY DEMANDED TURBO COMPUTERS!
Not outrageous, but I was still surprised - Cyrix MII-400 sold for 30 EURO (approx. $41 USD for today's exchange rate). Prices are going up!

I looked it up and apparently I only paid $10 for one of mine (I have 2 of them, I thought I had 3 but even if I do, I apparently misplaced it) so prices are definitely going up. But still, I think it's a fair price. The buyer thought so too because the chip was sold in 5 minutes in the very first reply posted in that WTS topic 😜
Anyway, it's better to buy low then to buy high 🤣
