I had my Sound Blaster 16 CT2830 in my system with a Texas Instruments 486 chip, and it worked pretty well when I first installed it. Though later after the removal of hardware so I can clean up the motherboard a bit and upgrade the RAM, I notice that the wave didn't seem to function anymore. I thought, or more so hoped it was just the drivers being a problem...

Well, I just put it into my recent project with a Pentium Pro based system with Windows 95, and I got the drivers installed successfully, but I am still missing Wave output to the speakers. CD Audio works perfectly well, midi works perfectly well... no error messages, no conlficts reported in Windows 95 in Device Manager, the volume control has an audio meter by the wave slider and it shows it's producing wave audio when I play it, but like I said, silence at the speaker end. 🙁

So is it possible the parts that deal with wave on the card died out, or something? 🙁

I also have a Sound Blaster CT4170 card with a Vibra 16XV chip. I looked at the Vogons driver database but didn't see any XV models. Let alone any for Windows 95. I was going to use this card.

Though I did wanted to have the Yamaha OPL chip being used in the SB16 card...

The XV uses CQM and not a real OPL, which is why it sounds so horrible compared to the cards with real OPL.

Actually isn't the AWE64 Gold like that Vibra16XV? It seemed chirpy too in OPL3 mode... 🙁

Alright, so then what can I try to do about my poor SB16 and it's wave audio? I like how the midi side to it, sounds nice and clean having the actual Yamaha OPL chip in there.

Ah! Fantastic news!

I pulled the board, examined it again... and Creative's website has a list of jumper functions still, right here: http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?sid=3039

Turns out, there was a missing jumper on "IFSD". I read this was part of the CSP chip functionality, and this doesn't have that add-on chip, and this jumper must be closed along with "APSD" to disable it. So the jumper must have come off during some sort of process.

Nice relief now! Hopefully this will help anyone with any similar issues! 😁

I wonder how it had worked initially then, before the jumper was corrected... probably the jumper fell off while removing the card?..

I think that is what might have happened, since it worked just fine before I pulled it to take the motherboard out of the system it was in to clean up the battery acid and prep it for an external battery. I didn't throw it around, but I have a lot of parts laying around I set it on, so it could have fallen off. 😦
