Also see: What soundcards should I stick into a 486

Iam sitting in the same boat, unfortunately. I also thought about what i want to use in my 486 DX (4) system.
Iam really dont know which processor iam going to use, but i guess it would be a faster one. In my collection of processors i have DX2 66 one, one DX2 80 mhx, more DX 4 100 mhz, over few days i receive three Amd DX 4 120mhz processors, and i got some AMD 5x86 -133 P75 ones.. Maybe i guess i will go for the 120mhz one.. I want just run the 486 games that wont are not any speedy anymore on a 386 DX 40mhz system and much later 486 games like doom, doom2, heretic, hexen, Warcraft 1 and 2 and much more.

My collection exists from:

- Creative SB Pro 2 CT 1600 X2
- Creative SB 16 CT1740 x1
- Creative SB 16 CT2230 x1
- Creative SB 32 AWE 32 CT3900
- Creative SB 32 AWE 32 CT3980
- Creative SB 64 AWE X2 (two different versions, an newer and an older one)
- Creative SB 64 AWE GOLD X2 or X3

- GUS ULTRASOUND MAX WITH MIDI MODULE
- PRIMAX GUS CLONE WITH UPGRADED MEMORY.

- Got Some NEC X385 Yamaha daughterboards i can stick on.
- Got an Roland SCB7 Daughterboard InBOX.
- Got an Roland LAPC-I MIDI card with MCB-1 break-out box.
- Got an Roland SCC-1 MIDI card.

-eventual i also got an ROLAND CM-32L module.. but iam not sure whats the best i could do? Roland Lapc-i in my 286 build and CM-32L in my 486 build, or CM-32L for my 286 build, and lapc-i to my 486 system build..
I guess the cm-32L doesnt require -5 volts from the power supply..

Is it wise to put muliple sound cards in that 486 system..? I want to have the benefits of the best quality sounds if its possible. I already did some home work by collecting information on the internet..
My thought about this is:

Dont know if i actually need an SB PRO2 CT-1600 in that 486 system.. First i was thinking of going to use the Creative SB AWE 32 CT3900 for this build, an Roland MT32 / CM32-L / Roland LAPC-I device
Like to have the GUS for like the Pinball games that sound great on that device. When i was looking on youtube, i really liked that CT2230 SB 16 card with the NEC X385 daughterboard.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vv-tMNyG0tQ . This sounds really nice in my view. I also heared that AWE 32 soundcard, but i didnt like it much because of those AWE effects..

Its not really an easy choice to make.. But prefer the best sound..

You have several great options. If you have too many choices, you may ship me the AWE 64 Gold cards, and then your decision will be a little easier to make. PM me.

You guys just make me laugh.. No iam not willing to sell my stuff..

Iam not out if iam going to use the SB PRO2 CT-1600 in it.. Iam just thinking to go along with the SB16 CT2230 / OR CT2290 i have here.. It would maybe an good idea to put on NEC XR385 Add-on board on it..
Here for you self: http://www.youtube.com/user/Ahcruna/videos I think this is almost the best quality sound to get.. I dont know if an SB AWE32 CT3900 would be the better candidate..
I also like to have a GUS in it, because on some games the GUS is really outstandig(example : Pinball fantasies)
I really dont know if it would make sense to add the CT-1600 with the other cards for SB Pro support.. But it would made it more compatible on soundcards..

If you have the ISA slots free, you can try this crazy idea :

1. SB16 CT1740 + Yamaha daughterboard @ A220 I7 D1 H5 P300
2. AWE64 Gold @ A240 I5 D3 H6 P300

Both the above will share the 388h FM ports and the MIDI Ports.

3. Roland LAPC-I @ I2/9 P330, AND
4. Roland SCC-1 @ I3 P330

I have not tested this before and do not not know if your system will hang. Usually shared MIDI ports will not cause problems.

In this case, you get to keep true OPL3 (SB16), Creative's AWE synthesis (AWE64Gold), Yamaha's good percussions(the daughterboard), the one and only LAPC-I, and Roland's famed Sound Canvas instrment set...

I like to know why you suggest me the CT1740 above the CT2230 and CT2290 cards?

I also want to have soundcards for my Pentium 200 / 233 mhz build.
In my 386 built iam thinking of using the CT1600 SB pro 2.0, i think that would be more compatible then trying use on an SB 16 card..

My 486 computer will only have ISA slots and VLB slots on the board.. Iam not intending to go for an PCI board. Because i like the VLB boards much more..
