CT3600 No reverb in AWEUTIL?

So I have a CT3600 (the CT4380 I got seems to be doa), and I put 8MB (2x4mb) simms into it. I can't seem to figure something out though. The /EM:GS and MT32 options don't seem to do anything (even though it says loaded successfully), and the /r option says that thats not a valid option.

Doesn't the CT3600 support these?

Are the reverb and chorus parameters listed when you type "AWEUTIL /?"? If they are, then your card does support these options. Use them exactly as listed in the output.

CT3600 is a SoundBlaster32 not an AWE32. That may have something to do with it.

Oh dear 😊

And what's that supposed to mean? SoundBlaster32 uses a different chip.It uses a Vibra version of the chip in the AWE32.

Scroll down to Soundblaster32.

The SB16 (Vibra) part should not matter. It is the usual EMU chip which has to process any reverb effect.
(Edit: Since this topic is about FM routing only, the SB16 part does matter)

Sound Blaster 32 uses E-mu Systems' EMU8000 chip to provide 32-note polyphony
of realistic wave-table sounds, 128 General MIDI-compatible instruments and
sounds, 10 drum kits, and reverb and chorus effects.

I can't remember having such issues with a CT3600. I would guess that something is wrong configured. The DRAM check reports the plugged memory and is ok?
As the card has not the 512kB soldered it relies on the additional memory for /EM:GS etc.

The reason why I asked about the output of AWEUTIL was because the OP said that the reverb switch was not recognized. AWEUTIL.TXT specifically states that not all cards do support the feature.
Also, Cloudschatze mentions in this thread that cards with the CQM (CT1978) chip do not route FM output through the EMU8K. This seems to be the case with the CT3600.

Thats funny, I swear I read somewhere the Vibras do not support reverb effects.

run diagnose and see how much RAM the card is reporting... if it's showing none, then perhaps it's not seated all the way or the contacts are dirty.... if it's showing, run a full memory test
MT32 and GS requires ram to work, and I think reverb/chorus requires ram too?

oh and, make sure you have the latest version of the drivers and aweutil as early versions were designed strictly for AWE32s

Yep, my CT3600 (which I now sold off along with the box, manuals, disks, etc.) does not seem to support reverb & chorus. No outputs at the command line and no difference in sounds when messing around with the AWE Control Panel in Win 3.1.

And yes, it's a Sound Blaster 32 PnP, not AWE. It does come with a pair of 30-pin SIMM slots.

It sees the entire 8MB Ram, and that sucks that it's so limited. 🙁

Wish I could get the CT4380 working, but it seems to be as dead as a doornail. Diagnose won't even see it (the CT4380).

I tested my CT3600 and the older AWEUTIL 1.20 offers the Reverb and Chorus options while the newer AWEUTIL 1.35 does not.
Setting it with the older AWEUTIL has no effect though, so it's misleading.

I was mistakingly thinking AWEutil reverb and chorus settings were global overrides for midi music as well, but it is FM channel specific. (Was everyone getting this except me?) 😜 The '/?' help screen does not specify this.
In that case, it is clear why it depends on the overall soundcard configuration for it to function.

That's soo typical for Creative... Thanks for testing this!

I wonder if that makes the CT1978-equipped cards ideal for 32-channel tracker music, since the FM chip isn't blocking two channels in this case.

No, I don't think you are the only one. It doesn't help that you can set chorus/reverb for MIDI in the Windows drivers.

That was the reason why I questioned it being a SoundBlaster32 instead of an AWE32, I thought the same thing. The SoundBlaster32 was meant to be an even cheaper model than the AWE32 Value Edition so the feature set would have to be cut back even more than the Value Edition to justify the low price.

Now I'm confused: I have a CT3670, which also identifies as a SoundBlaster 32 PnP and it *does* have reverb and chorus effects on FM (I checked). So which models do have reverb and which don't? Is it just defined by how the different components are integrated in the cards' chipset? And why do cards with different feature sets have the same name? 😕

Do they advertise Reverb/Chorus for FM on the box anyway? I doubt it. It can be a feature or a bug depending on how you look at it.
