Sorry for the very basic question, but...

Can someone please explain the format for adding command-line arguments
(e.g argc)
to the [autoexec] section of the DOSBox *.conf file that is run at start-up.

I have tried "-2" and "/2" and just "2" (by itself)
but nothing is recognized
and program starts without argument taking effect

I think you misunderstand it.

it's not for parsing command line from the dosbox command to the autoexec.bat section.
If you need that, you need to use -c

If you are on the otherhand are talking about commandline parameters to the application

[autoexec]
Hello.exe /2

Problem resolved!
Possibly the edit of the *.conf file, (to add the commnd-line argument), did not take effect
until the word-editor was exited, (which is strange!)

I'm sure you've saved the file before.
